About

Writing about yourself is probably one of the most difficult things to do, and no matter how many times I have to jot down a biography, I freeze up and have to actively think, 'Oh, God, who am I?'

That's not an existentialist or philosophical question, I think it's just an attempt to condense.

Hi, I'm Julie Fooshee, but you probably know me better as Jay. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida and spent a great deal of time moving between Florida and Georgia. There's a running tally of all my moves which might warrant it's own post at some point but for now, suffice to say I've finally broken my goal of 30 and there's no end in sight.

I went to 11 schools and managed to get a degree somewhere in there, Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Georgia. Then I spent a few years floundering around in dead end assistant positions before I kicked myself and said "do something you enjoy."

That ended up being a research project that consumed 2008-2011. I can't talk about the specifics of my position, however I can say I worked as the Program Data Manager as we studied museum education in science centers. I also became the default technical director of the project since it was discovered that I may actually like computers. Shh, don't tell. You may recognize me from any of my appearances presenting at the following:

FAM 2009; Sarasota, FL
ASTC 2009; Fort Worth, TX
FAM 2010; West Palm Beach, FL
ASTC 2010; Honolulu, HI
ACM 2011; Houston, TX
FAM 2011; Tampa, FL
ASTC 2011; Baltimore, MD
FERA 2012; Gainesville, FL

But that's not really my life, it's just my job. In my free time I'm an immense nerd who dabbles in video games, philosophy, comic books, physics and rocketry. Despite having a degree in History, I'm a space and science fanatic. I've attended the following:

NASAtweetup STS-133 Nov 2010 - Feb 2011
NASAtweetup GRAIL September 2011

However, I was also at STS-130, STS-131, STS-132 and the crowning achievement in my shuttle-chasing career came when I made it to STS-135, the last and final launch of the shuttle program which was on my 27th birthday.

My last big assignment ended on December 31, 2011 and after that I spent time doing all the things I didn't get to do the last three years. I took a huge road trip, I spent 24 straight hours at Disney World, I conquered the Tail of the Dragon, I drove through Gettysburg at night, I saw the sun rise over New York City and watched it curve over a foreign harbor. I spent a lot of time thinking and reading and not doing but I'd like to change that, I think.

Remember, it's not going to matter in 24 hours. We're only stardust, after all.
